History
The history of CA is rich and varied, starting with the indigenous peoples who inhabited the region for thousands of years. Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century, and the area became part of Mexico in 1821. Following the Mexican-American War, CA was ceded to the United States in 1848. The discovery of gold in 1848 at Sutter’s Mill spurred the CA Gold Rush, leading to a massive influx of settlers and its admission as the 31st state in 1850.
Economy
CA has the largest economy of any U.S. state and is a global economic powerhouse. If it were a country, it would rank as the world’s fifth-largest economy.
