Delete your NFound account

NFound is made by NFound Samaritan Project, a nonprofit in California. This page is how you delete your NFound account and the data on it.

In the app

Open Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to verify your phone number again — the same code by SMS you signed in with — and the account is deleted straight away. There is nothing to wait for and nobody to ask.

Without the app

If you no longer have NFound installed, write to privacy@nfound.org from any address, and say which phone number the account uses. Nothing is deleted on the strength of an email alone: we confirm the request through that number first, then delete the account and write back. Allow up to 30 days, though it is usually the same week.

What is deleted

  • Your account, your name, your phone number and email, your profile photo.
  • Your reports and their photographs.
  • Your group memberships, your live position and your route history.
  • Messages you sent — the text and any attachments go; the conversation keeps a placeholder so the other person's copy still reads as a conversation.
  • Your emergency contacts.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Orders and donations — 7 years. Accounting records we are required to keep. Your name and contact details are removed from them when the account goes; what remains is the amount, the date and the tax record.
  • Reports removed for breaking the rules are retained for moderation and legal purposes and shown to nobody.
  • Server logs — 30 days, then discarded on their own.

Everything else on the account is gone at once. The full picture is in the privacy policy, section 6.
