Charles Chia, an 8-year-old boy, was reported missing on October 18, 1989, in Reno, Nevada. He and his sister, Jennifer Chia, exited their school bus and were last seen walking towards their apartment complex. Unfortunately, their remains were found in Blairsden, California, on July 25, 1990. This area is about 60 miles west of Reno. Law enforcement conducted exhaustive searches, and many community efforts raised awareness about their disappearance. Billboards, flyers, and even a television reenactment were utilized to generate tips. One significant lead involved a witness who saw a brown van near the highway turnout where the children's remains were discovered. The only detail recalled about this van was a distinctive Miller gear shift knob. James Grooms, a convicted felon, has been a suspect due to an attempted extortion involving the children's mother.
